Women and young people are the backbone of families and communities, yet in many rural areas of Northern Uganda, they continue to face systemic social, economic, and cultural barriers that limit their participation in development. These challenges include limited access to education and skills, restricted economic opportunities, harmful gender norms, and inadequate representation in decision-making spaces.
At NIYE Action for Development (NA4D), we recognise that sustainable development cannot be achieved without the active involvement and empowerment of women, youth, and children. For this reason, they are placed at the centre of all our programmes and interventions.
NA4D works with communities to equip women and young people with practical skills, leadership capacity, and confidence to actively engage in economic activities and community decision-making. Through targeted skills development, mentorship, and community mobilisation, we support women and youth to build sustainable livelihoods, take on leadership roles, and contribute meaningfully to household and community well-being.
Our programmes also address the root causes of inequality by promoting child protection, challenging harmful social norms, and fostering inclusive attitudes within families and communities. By working with local leaders, parents, and community structures, we encourage environments where women and young people are valued, protected, and supported to reach their full potential.
Investing in women and youth is not only a matter of social justice—it is a proven pathway to stronger households, resilient communities, and inclusive economic growth. When women and young people are empowered, the benefits extend beyond individuals to entire communities.
Through this approach, NA4D is helping to build a future where development is inclusive, sustainable, and shared by all—leaving no one behind.
